Zoom teeth whitening involves the use of hydrogen peroxide gel and an Advanced Power Chairside Lamp. The lamp helps activate the gel to speed up the bleaching process. Once the lamp breaks down the hydrogen peroxide, oxygen then enters the teeth’s dentin and enamel. This eliminates discoloration without damaging the teeth. 

It’s important to keep in mind that Zoom isn’t suitable for every patient. Prior to determining whether this procedure is right for you, our team will examine and evaluate the health of your gums and teeth. Although sensitivity occurs in the first 24 hours of treatment, teeth whitening is very safe. However, we don’t recommend this treatment for patients under the age of 13, or for pregnant or lactating women.

The treatment is relatively quick, taking less than an hour to complete. Before undergoing the procedure, routine cleaning is recommended to help prepare the teeth. Immediately before the application of the Zoom lamp, we cover the gums and lips to solely expose the teeth. They will then apply Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to the teeth, using the lamp to activate the gel and remove any discoloration and staining present. In total, the procedure consists of three 15-minute applications of gel and light. Together, these comprise a single 45-minute session. Following this treatment period, the dentist will coat your teeth with a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste gel.

In most cases, however, people tend to have results that last about one year.

It’s important to consider potential sensitivity to treatment, which some may experience. Mild to moderate discomfort could develop throughout the treatment, as the Zoom light produces a small amount of heat. In some cases, patients may also experience a slight tingling sensation following treatment, but this quickly subsides.
